Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) is a general term for disorders that affect how the brain processes auditory information. It is not a hearing impairment. Below is a summary of results from Lindamood-Bell Learning Center students who reported having a previous, third-party diagnosis of CAPD. These students received Seeing Stars® instruction for decoding and/or Visualizing and Verbalizing® instruction for comprehension.
In 2011, Lindamood-Bell Learning Centers worked with 217 students who reported having previous, third-party diagnoses of CAPD. That is 8% of the total student population in our Learning Centers. Before starting instruction, on average, these students tested below the 45th percentile in the following categories of the Lindamood-Bell learning ability evaluation: symbol imagery, phonemic awareness, word attack, word recognition, and comprehension.
After completing instruction, these students achieved the following average gains:
