Any successful literacy initiative must be comprehensive to affect student achievement on a large scale and sustain itself over time. Lindamood-Bell's ongoing success is based on two factors. First, language and literacy skills are cognitive acts. Instruction to increase these skills must be based on a theory of cognition. Second, any initiative to increase language and literacy skills must address the system and structure of the school(s) involved. The following features of our school partnerships ensure schools and districts comprehensively address their language and literacy needs:



Key 1 Sensory-cognitive programs

That address the five components of scientifically-based reading instruction: phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, and are requisite skills for standards-based instruction.

Including introductory workshops, coaching, program demonstrations, professional learning communities, and certification.


Key 1 Tiers 1, 2, and 3 instruction

Differentiated instruction applicable to any and all learning environments, customized to meet the needs of whole classrooms and individual students.


Key 1 Response to Intervention (RtI)

Professional development in diagnostic assessment, differentiated instruction, and progress monitoring; regular reporting to district leadership to measure efficacy of program implementation.


Key 1 Intensive Intervention

Small-group instruction focused on changing the rate of learning and significantly increasing reading and comprehension skills.






Key 1 Web-based data management

Automated test scoring program that generates individual assessment reports; attendance tracking provided in monthly progress monitoring.


Key 1 Leadership and collaboration

Orientation for site and district leadership; ongoing collaboration to monitor and manage program quality and fidelity.


Key 1 Lindamood-Bell Certification Program

Comprehensive and customized professional development plan for instructional leaders; our certification program maximizes program quality and sustainability.
