A hot topic in education is the question of the effect of School Improvement Grants and Turnaround or Transformation models. While some states and districts continue to struggle to implement aggressive and innovative programs, our Center of Excellence Transformation Project in Center School District, Colorado, continues to be a model for positive and immediate results. Click here to read an article on Haskin Elementary in the Center School District.
After being identified in 2010 as one of the most chronically low performing schools in Colorado, Haskin submitted its school improvement plan to adopt Lindamood-Bell as its educational service provider in the area of literacy development. In its first year, the Center of Excellence Project had the largest percent change in academic performance of all Turnaround schools in the entire state, from 39.1 to 44.8, a 5.7-point increase. We are proud to be a partner with Center and Haskin Elementary, and we look forward to continuing to assist the district in its Transformation process.
Turnaround & Transformation Solutions
Lindamood-Bell has over a decade of research and results from working comprehensively with districts throughout the country, including many states recently awarded Race to the Top (RttT) funding. Comparative, peer-reviewed research documents the efficacy of our professional development approach with increasing and sustaining student achievement.
Lindamood-Bell is an approved Turnaround/Transformation or School Improvement Provider in Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, and Tennessee (currently, only these states have a provider-approval process). School districts often incorporate our comprehensive Professional Learning Community (PLC) model into their school improvement plans. Click here to see our peer-reviewed study.
Currently, we are in the second year of a three-year Turnaround initiative at Haskin Elementary, in Center School District, Colorado. Haskin principal, Kathy Kulp, observed, "Lindamood-Bell has had an enormous impact on our school and on our students. The training our teachers received impacted all areas of their instruction and led to increased student achievement across the content areas."
For successful Turnaround or School Improvement initiatives, we first work closely with schools to implement a Needs Assessment, for both students and staff, to customize an appropriate model of professional development. This is a more efficient and cost-effective approach to meeting school improvement needs. To learn more about Lindamood-Bell comprehensive services for improving student achievement, click here.
Improving Reading for Native American Students
Lindamood-Bell has partnered extensively with school districts servicing a high proportion of Native American students, yielding significant growth in reading skills. From 2005 to 2008, we implemented our model in Iditarod Area School District, Alaska, where the percent of students performing at proficiency on the state achievement test increased from 51% to 71%.
Lindamood-Bell has worked with Native American students in the following schools:

From 1998 to 2011, we partnered with Pueblo City Schools (PSD 60) to transform professional development and student achievement in a high minority, high poverty district. Our success in Pueblo was peer-reviewed in 2006, and the authors concluded that, in implementing a comprehensive plan to increase student achievement, "PSD 60 went 'by the book' in producing large-scale reform with much success."
