Lindamood-Bell offers instruction to foster youth
Thirteen children to benefit


San Luis Obispo, Calif. - March 28, 2007 Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes gave CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates of SLO county, the opportunity to address the literacy needs of youth served by CASA and the county's foster care system at no cost. Twenty children from 2-12th grade were given a full battery of assessments by the professionals at Lindamood-Bell. Thirteen children were admitted into the program and began instruction on February 26, 2007. the children meet for instruction Monday thru Friday for two hours each day. This is a 12 week program with a total of 120 hours of instruction. Most children attending the program are from the North and South County. Caregivers, Family Care Network, CASA volunteers, and the Department of Social Services are providing transportation to San Luis Obispo for the children. At the end of the 12 weeks the children will be reassessed to determine their progress.

Lindamood-Bell programs are internationally recognized as one of the most effective methods for developing literacy skills. Their one-to-one instruction goes beyond traditional tutoring. The instructions develop the underlying sensory skills necessary for reading, spelling, comprehension, critical thinking, and math.
