is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first
three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects
the normal functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of
social interaction and communication skills.

150 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with autism.
24,000
new cases of autism are diagnosed per year in the U.S.
The economic impact
of autism is more than $90 billion and is expected to double within the next
decade.
Compared to
other disabilities, Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability
in the U.S.
SIGNS/SYMPTOMS:
Some autistic traits may include the following:
Poor motor skills
Over - or under - sensitive to pain
Difficulty expressing
needs
Inappropriate laughing
Frequent tantrums
