Austism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills.

FACTS:

1 in 150 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with autism.
24,000 new cases of autism are diagnosed per year in the U.S.
The economic impact of autism is more than $90 billion and is expected to double within the       next decade.
Compared to other disabilities, Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in the U.S.

 

SIGNS/SYMPTOMS:
Some autistic traits may include the following:

Poor motor skills
Over - or under - sensitive to pain
Difficulty expressing needs
Inappropriate laughing
Frequent tantrums
Lack of language skills
