At Lindamood-Bell Learning Centers, we see a wide variety of learning and reading difficulties. Many children and adults come to our learning centers seeking more than just reading help, from more than just another reading tutor. Fortunately, for most of those individuals, we have solutions.
With our research-validated instructional programs, Lindamood-Bell Learning Centers can help students of all ages improve the underlying sensory-cognitive processes needed to become confident, self-monitoring, independent readers, thinkers, and learners. Do any of these solutions sound helpful to you?
The Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS®) program helps children and adults develop the sensory-cognitive function of phonemic awareness. Unlike most reading, spelling, and phonics programs, LiPS instruction directly applies phonemic awareness to the identification and sequencing of sounds in words. Students in the LiPS program move through a series of steps to learn how their mouths produce the sounds of language. This kinesthetic feedback enables them to verify the identity and sequence of sounds within words, and to become self-correcting in reading, spelling, and speech.
The Seeing Stars®: Symbol Imagery for Phonemic Awareness, Sight Words, and Spelling program helps struggling readers develop the sensory-cognitive function of symbol imagery. Unlike the methods of most reading tutors, Seeing Stars instruction directly applies symbol imagery to sight word development, contextual fluency, spelling, and increasing the speed and stability of phonemic awareness. Students in the Seeing Stars program move through a series of steps – from single consonants/vowels to multisyllabic and contextual reading – to develop the imagery-language connection for competency in written language.
The Visualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension and Thinking® (V/V®) program, created by Nanci Bell, helps struggling readers develop the sensory-cognitive function of concept imagery. Unlike most reading and comprehension programs, V/V instruction directly applies concept imagery to the comprehension and expression of both oral and written language, as well as the development of critical thinking skills, Students in the V/V program move through a series of steps to learn the process for creating an imaged gestalt, then integrating that imagery with language to strengthen their comprehension and critical thinking.
The Talkies® program helps children and adults develop the sensory-cognitive function of concept imagery. Unlike most speech, language, and comprehension programs, Talkies directly applies concept imagery to the comprehension and expression of oral language. As a primer to the Visualizing and Verbalizing® program, Talkies instruction takes students through a series of simpler, smaller steps to develop mental imagery as a base for language comprehension and expression. Talkies instruction may be of particular benefit to children and adults with prior, third-party diagnoses of expressive language delays or autism spectrum disorders.
The On Cloud Nine® (OCN™) Math program, created by Kimberly Tuley and Nanci Bell, helps children and adults develop the underlying sensory-cognitive functions needed for math processing. Unlike most math programs, OCN instruction directly applies concept and symbol imagery to learning and retaining math facts, solving word problems, and increasing the speed and stability of math computation. Students in the On Cloud Nine Math program move through a series of steps – from imaging numerals to solving word problems and working with fractions/decimals – to develop the imagery-language connection for competency in math.
