Cheyenne, WY, June 14, 2011 – Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, an internationally recognized leader in literacy research, remediation, and professional development, has just completed its fourth year of a partnership with Laramie County School District 1. During the 2010-11 school year, Lindamood-Bell collaborated with LCSD 1 to provide extensive professional development at 17 schools: Afflerbach, Baggs, Bain, Goins, Fairview, Lebhart, Hebard, Henderson, Arp, Cole, Saddle Ridge, Demming/Miller, Dildine, Freedom, Jessup and Alta Vista Elementary Schools, and East High School. This comprehensive model includes on-site consulting and support for teachers and principals, including professional development in diagnostic assessments, small group instruction for struggling readers classroom implementation, and certification for key district personnel.
Nearly 5,000 Laramie County School District students in grades 2-6 and 10 were tested using the Reading measure in the fall (August/September) of 2010 and again in the spring (April/May) of 2011. Results for 417 students who received small-group Lindamood-Bell® instruction (SG) were compared to students who did not receive small- group instruction (No SG).
"Teaching reading really is rocket science. As educators, we aren't taught to help struggling readers. What we've been using hasn't been successful with every child. Lindamood-Bell has filled that gap," says Brenda Creel, Principal at Jessup Elementary.
