| Community Volunteers Provide Family Literacy in Atlanta, Michigan |
|
Atlanta, MI, December 6, 2011- The Atlanta Life Skills Organization (ALSO) and Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes recently completed workshops for volunteers who will provide literacy services at family and adult education clinics in the Atlanta community. Through this initiative, funded by the Kellogg Foundation, community volunteers at the clinics have learned the Lindamood-Bell® programs for reading, spelling, and comprehension.
The clinics opened in late November and volunteers are donating their time to provide instruction in Lindamood-Bell’s methods after school to struggling students who need to improve their literacy skills. Instruction will also be offered to others in the community with literacy needs, including college students and adults. Superintendent Teresa Stauffer of Atlanta Community Schools (ACS) was instrumental in bringing the after-school clinics to the community. The clinics operate within the ACS facilities.
