Turnaround Success in Center, Colorado
As a Colorado-approved Turnaround Provider, Lindamood-Bell was selected to implement our Gold PLC model at Haskin Elementary School, a high minority and high poverty school in Center School District, Colorado. Over the course of the school year, teachers and students met or exceeded all of their performance goals. In May, when 3rd Grade CSAP (state achievement test) results were released, Haskin 3rd graders improved from 28% to 41% proficient compared to prior year. Early indicators are also favorable for 4th and 5th grade students - results to be released in late summer. "Our students are being challenged more than ever before and our teachers have the tools, strategies, and support to reach them," observed Melissa Garcia, a teacher who achieved Lindamood-Bell® Consultant Certification. Congratulations to the Haskin Elementary staff on a creating a true Center of Excellence!
Rigorous Professional Development in Cheyenne, Wyoming
Congratulations to Laramie School District (5th year of Lindamood-Bell's PLC Implementation for Special Education) for its commitment to rigorous professional development for its staff. In 2010-11, 35 district teachers achieved Lindamood-Bell® Consultant Certification, allowing the district to increase evidence-based instructional capacity and maintain highly qualified staff at 18 schools.
Promising RtI Research in Bristol, Tennessee
This was the first year of a partnership at Fairmount Elementary school in Bristol, Tennessee, where Lindamood-Bell initiated a research project to analyze the school-wide effects of implementing our RtI framework. Fairmount is a high poverty, high needs school with 78% students receiving Free and Reduced lunch. 15 percent of students are classified as Special Education. In 2010, only 44% of students were proficient on the state assessment (TCAP). For the RtI research, the school was compared with a similar school in the district not implementing the Lindamood-Bell® model. Over 100 students received intensive intervention, and all classroom teachers received ongoing professional development. District and school leadership were instrumental in implementing this model with fidelity. By the end of the first semester, Fairmount had already surpassed other schools in the district on its benchmark testing, schools that had consistently outperformed Fairmount in the past. At year's end, Fairmount's students had made significant progress in reading and comprehension skills. In the coming weeks, state test results will be released, and results from the research study will be published. We are already thrilled with the gains we have seen! Congratulations Fairmount Elementary and Bristol City Schools!
Title 1 Distinguished School in Pueblo, Colorado
2010-11 was the 13th year of our partnership with Pueblo City Schools-our longest sustained PLC implementation Pueblo is a high minority, urban school district 50 minutes south of Colorado Springs. The district has continued to outperform the state average on achievement testing despite its Title 1 status. This year was no exception. 3rd graders were 76% Proficient and Advanced on the state CSAP test (compared to the state average of 73%) . Building capacity, and then sustaining instructional quality and fidelity, are always huge challenges for schools. Pueblo is an example where leaders and teachers have overcome these challenges. One school, Heritage Elementary, was selected as a Blue Ribbon School, and recently recognized as a National Title 1 Distinguished School, thanks to its ongoing success. Principal Gina Gallegos achieved Lindamood-Bell® Consultant Certification in 2003, and continues to be an instructional leader at her school. Her leadership, and that of others around the district, continue to make the difference in Pueblo City schools.
Lindamood-Bell Donates Services
